What is checked
CBB means Certificate and Binding Box; E-Sys provides Certificate Management for this work. A unit certificate helps establish its identity in protected vehicle communication. Bindings associate units with the vehicle and related interaction data.
Validation checks these data. A repair may require new data followed by another check. Units that look identical do not have automatically interchangeable certificates or bindings.
Use the procedure and diagnostics to establish whether validation is needed. Replacing any unit does not automatically require this service.
Keep the request and response together
The working program creates a request for the current vehicle and operation. The response is prepared from it. VIN, FA and SVT do not replace the original CBB request, although unit data are used in preparing the procedure.
Save the unchanged request and keep its response as a separate file. Processing confirms preparation; validity is checked after application.
Example
Use standard Certificate Management in E-Sys 25.10.01 with the vehicle connected. Standard mode processes all listed units with individual certificates; selecting individual ECU belongs to the extended module.
- Read SVT (ECU) and Read VIN. For saved SVT Actual, verify the vehicle and enter its VIN.
- Under Create CBB Request File, select Read data and create temporal CBB Request File. Save and submit this original request for CBB Validation.
- Keep the response beside it. Under Write data, select Use locally available CBB Response File.
- Perform Write data under the repair procedure and inspect the result.
- Run Start data check. Inspect the tree results; the result file is saved in Cert.
- Complete remaining repair steps and test the equipment in the car.
A newly performed check matters: a stored status may belong to an earlier state.
What validation does not establish
Coding, KDS, SFA and FSC address different parts of the repair and use their own data. A valid CBB result does not replace settings or feature permissions. If the function fails, investigate the remaining conditions from diagnostic evidence.
