Understand the three values
I-Step, also called I-level, identifies software integration level. A value such as S15A-15-07-500 should be kept in full. Unit component versions are read in SVT Actual.
| Value | Meaning |
|---|---|
| I-Step (shipment) | Level at production |
| I-Step (current) | Stored current level |
| I-Step (target) | Intended level selected during preparation |
Shipment and current may differ after updates. Target appears in TAL-Calculating during planning; it does not establish the already installed state.
Example
With the correct vehicle connected in E-Sys 25.10.01:
- Open Expert Mode → VCM for configuration management records.
- Select Master in the lower window. Under I-Steps, select that section's Read.
- Find I-Step (current) and I-Step (shipment) in Integration steps above.
- Save a screenshot or both full values with VIN and read date.
- Read installed unit data and save SVT Actual separately when checking component software.
If values do not appear or reading fails, preserve the message and investigate before preparation. Another vehicle's example level cannot replace this read.
Use the records for planning
Compare the unit data with repair requirements. Where programming is required, select the appropriate target and software data.
TAL-Calculating uses I-Step and vehicle data in calculating SVT Target. Current and target component states produce the TAL operation plan. Review its units, actions and versions before execution.
What the read establishes
You have stored integration records and unit data for comparison. Reading I-Step does not update software or establish arbitrary NCD, token or target compatibility. Programming results are checked later through the operation report and vehicle functions.
