What KDS links
KDS provides theft protection for certain components by linking them to the vehicle. Moving a component can produce a mismatch and restricted operation.
Master is the central participant; Clients are the protected components. BCP performs the central role in the system described here. Pairing is their link. KDS-ID identifies participants, while VIN identifies the vehicle.
Participants vary by vehicle. Do not reuse another car's component list. Detection of a unit and valid pairing are separate findings.
Read the state first
In E-Sys 25.10.01 → KDS Extended, Read KDS under Standard actions displays the participants. Quick check under KDS Status checks their state.

The message guides investigation rather than specifies the entire repair. Determine Refurbish or Re-Pairing requirements from diagnostics and the procedure.
What the token authorises
A token authorises a particular KDS operation. Its original request contains operation data, so VIN alone is insufficient. Keep the request unchanged and return the response to the originating procedure. Successful service processing provides one token; it does not itself restore pairing.
For KDS Extended, separately establish that the response is intended for this module and operation. The name KDS token alone does not establish that applicability.
Example
After replacement, read KDS and save Quick check. Identify the affected participant and the operation required by diagnosis.
Where Re-Pairing is required in KDS Extended, select the operation and participants on Extended actions and create the request. Select an appropriate response in File Name for Write Secure Token (Set), then inspect the write messages.
Read KDS and run Quick check again. Compare the state and test the component in the car.
Continue diagnosis where needed
Coding sets configuration values, SFA and FSC address feature permissions, and KDS addresses component pairing. A repair may involve several procedures without making their files interchangeable. If pairing is valid but the function fails, investigate equipment, software, settings and permissions.
