Checking BMW coding: the report, data and vehicle function

After coding, check the write report, any required data read and the function itself. Each answers a different question. A completed progress bar does not replace the report, and an NCD file does not establish equipment operation.

Inspect the completed operation

Wait for the E-Sys report. Find the intended unit and all CAFD involved in the job. Each has its own identifier and version; one entry may not cover the whole operation.

The E-Sys 25.10.01 manual's successful example shows cDeploy Finished and 0 Errors. These concern the write. Save that run's report beside its inputs and file used.

Check the intended function

Test the equipment after replacement or the behaviour after a settings change. Read relevant diagnostic messages. A successful write does not check every other condition required by the function.

For navigation, appropriate maps and permission may still be needed. Assess these from the actual symptom if route calculation fails.

Read settings afterwards when needed

In Expert Mode → Coding, find the unit and CAFD and perform Read Coding Data. After success, NCD appears beneath CAFD and a copy is saved in the CAF data folder.

Keep the later read separate from both the original read and prepared write file. It retrieves current settings; the vehicle check establishes function behaviour.

Example

After coding a head unit, inspect all relevant CAFD results and save the report. Open navigation and calculate a route. A menu item alone is insufficient.

If the route fails, preserve the vehicle message and investigate maps and permission. Read settings separately if useful. Repeating coding is not itself an explanation for every navigation fault.

Investigate a report error

Keep the full message, unit, CAFD, selected file and preceding actions. For mismatch, compare data and unit software; for signature rejection, check the unchanged original signed file.

Confirm both successful writing to the intended unit and the required vehicle behaviour before treating the job as complete.
