BMW factory FA and SVT: understand the source and result

Data retrieved by VIN describe the state recorded by their source. Establish the file's origin before applying it. A recent download can contain the original configuration, while the installed equipment has changed.

Distinguish the two data sets

FA, Fahrzeug-Auftrag, describes the vehicle order and equipment configuration. SVT, System Variant Table, describes control units and software components. A job may require both, but their availability depends on how the data are obtained.

The Factory FA service provides original FA only. SVT is not included. Obtain suitable unit data separately when preparing a task that needs both files. Factory FA retrieval also does not include NCD preparation or writing to the vehicle.

Understand recorded states

DescriptionWhat it tells you
FactoryOriginal configuration at production
Latest knownMost recent records available in a particular source
Current vehicle readState found during that read

These distinctions help assess files; factory and latest known are not two options offered by Factory FA. The service retrieves the original configuration.

Even later recorded data may predate replacement or equipment changes. Read the actual vehicle and account for its repair history when the job requires its current state.

Example

To compare a repaired car with its original configuration, request Factory FA using the complete 17-character VIN through the Telegram bot. Follow its order instructions and check the identifier.

Save the received FA and note its factory origin. If the task also needs unit information, read and save suitable SVT separately. Compare the records with installed equipment and diagnostic data, accounting for changes after production.

For a current configuration, read the vehicle and assess later changes. Do not treat retrieved factory data as a new vehicle read.

Check relevance before the next operation

Coding needs the intended configuration and appropriate unit data. Programming separately requires current and target states and review of the TAL plan. The original factory state is not automatically the required result of a repair.

Before NCD preparation, check the FA and separately obtained SVT together. Keep their origins visible so the result can be traced to the intended configuration and unit state.
