What the code does
FSC means Freischaltcode. It authorises a particular function. Programming installs software and coding sets configuration values; these can be separate stages of the same repair.
For navigation, installing map data does not replace any required permission. A navigation code cannot substitute for an engine permission. The unit and conditions of use determine the application method.
Distinguish restoration from a new permission
A factory set contains available codes associated with the VIN. It can restore corresponding permissions after repair, rather than purchase any new feature. It does not cover every future map version.
Check the installed maps against the code's coverage. Use appropriate maps or obtain the required permission for the selected update. The factory set service retrieves available codes; it does not select a new code for arbitrary maps.
NBT and ENTRY have a procedure involving a 20-character code entered in iDrive. NBT Evo and MGU use a different loading method. Accompanying files and documents are not all intended for manual entry.
Understand FSC DME separately
DME is the engine control unit. The offering prepares one file for a VIN and selected item. Read function, AppID and unit variant together: remote start option 1CR has distinct 0x017C DME1 SP15 and 0x0180 DME2 SP15 entries.
This option is not a factory solution or purchase of an official ConnectedDrive feature. Establish the installed variant and software applicability before ordering; VIN alone cannot do so. The code may stop working after a software update. A name such as Competition does not mean the file itself changes engine power.
Example
For navigation restoration, save the factory set with the VIN and job details, find the required code and check map coverage. In E-Sys 25.10.01, view the file through FSC Editor → File → Open without editing it.
Where the unit's procedure uses FSC, distinguish Write FSC, Update FSC and Poll FSC State: writing, checking and activation, and reading the state. These actions are not a universal application method for every FSC DME.
Confirm the result
Check the permission state and the actual function. For navigation, verify the required maps and route calculation. Keep the exact rejection, unit details and file purpose if it fails. Loading a file in an editor does not establish activation.
